This piece is from a meditation on colonial cultural erasure and depicts Queen Medb riding a white bull. Medb was a ferocious archetypal warrior queen, it is said that it took 39 men to satisfy her sexually, and she had 9 husbands. When one of her husbands acquired a prize bull that made his holdings worth more than hers, which under the laws of the time would mean he was more powerful, she refused to yield to him and stole the bull for herself, plunging the country into civil war. Her hair and dress are made from oak leaves symbolising resilience. The shadow she casts is of a starving woman holding a baby, and references the mother and baby homes, and the fall of the position of women in Irish society following colonisation by the Catholic church.
Vividly printed on luxurious 290gsm linen card. Prints are shipped in a hard board envelope with a protective inner cellophane enevelope and are a standard A4 size so it's easy to find frames.
